TIN TETRACHLORIDE IS A POWERFUL LEWIS ACID WHICH IS A LIQUID WITH A HIGH SPECIFICGRAVITY. THE HANDLING AND THE USABILITY OF SNCL4 AS A LIQUID FORM IS LABORIOUS. SILICA-SUPPORTED SNCL4 IS A MILD SOLID LEWIS ACID [1] AND DOES NOT NEED SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR PREPARATION, HANDLING, OR STORAGE, WHICH COULD PROMOTE ACID-CATALYZED ORGANIC REACTIONS [2-5].THE BIGINELLI REACTION IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT MULTI-COMPONENT REACTIONS FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF DIHYDROPYRIMIDINONES. DIHYDROPYRIMIDINONES ARE KNOWN TO EXHIBIT A WIDE RANGE OF BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES SUCH AS ANTIVIRAL, ANTITUMOUR, ANTIBACTERIAL, AND ANTIINFLAMMATORY PROPERTIES [6]. THE USE OF A WIDE VARIETY OF CATALYSTS TO PERFORM THE BIGINELLIREACTION HAS BEEN WELL REPORTED IN RECENT LITERATURE [7-9].IN THIS WORK, WE HAVE INVESTIGATED THE APPLICATION OF NANO-SNCL4.SIO2 FOR THE CONDENSATION OF AN ALDEHYDE, ETHYL ACETOACETATE AND UREA UNDER SOLVENT-FREE CONDITIONS (SCHEME 1). THIS METHODOLOGY HAS SEVERAL ADVANTAGES SUCH AS SHORT REACTION TIME, LACK OF ORGANIC SOLVENT AND EASY WORKUP FOR ISOLATION OF THE PRODUCTS IN GOOD YIELD WITH HIGH PURITY.

MULTI-COMPONENT REACTIONS (MCRS) HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO BE A VERY ELEGANT AND RAPID WAY TO ACCESS COMPLEX STRUCTURES IN A SINGLE SYNTHETIC OPERATION.1 1-AMIDOALKYL-2-NAPHTHOLS ARE PRECURSORS FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF OXAZINES WHICH ARE PRESENT IN VARIETY OF BIOLOGICALLY IMPORTANT NATURAL PRODUCTS2. IN CONTINUATION OF OUR RESEARCH ON THE APPLICATIONS OF LEWIS ACIDS IN ORGANIC SYNTHESIS, 3 WE HAVE INVESTIGATED THE ONE-POT THREE-COMPONENT SYNTHESIS OF AMIDOALKYL NAPHTHOL DERIVATIVESVIA A MULTI-COMPONENT CONDENSATION REACTION FROM VARIOUS LEWIS ACID CATALYST.SYNTHESIS OF 1-AMIDOALKYL-2-NAPHTHOL IN THE PRESENCE OF LEWIS ACIDS SUCH AS ZRCL4, NI (NO3) 2 AND ZROCL2 WAS DEVELOPED. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE NI (NO3) 2 IS THE MORE EFFICIENT CATALYST TO PREPARE1-AMIDOALKYL-2-NAPHTHOL (SCHEME).

SULFONAMIDES WERE INTENSIVELY INVESTIGATED AS THE FIRST EFFECTIVE ANTIBACTERIAL AGENTS. [1] DIFFERENT 2- (BENZO [D] THIAZOL-2-YLTHIO) -N - (4- (N-PHENYLSULFAMOYL) PHENYL) ACETAMIDE WERE SYNTHESIZED IN FOUR STEP, AS SHOWN IN SCHEME. FIRSTLY, ANILINE WAS ACYLATED WITH 2-CHLORO ACETYL CHLORIDE. THE PRODUCT (1) WAS REACTED WITH HSO3CL TO PRODUCE 4- (2-CHLOROACETAMIDO) BENZENE-1-SULFONYLCHLORIDE (2). DERIVATIVES OF COMPOUND (3) WAS SYNTHESIZED BY THE REACTION OF 2 WITH DIFFERENT AMINE. [2] IN THE FINAL STEP 2-MERCAPTO BENZOTHIAZOLE WAS REACTED WITH 2-CHLORO-N - (SULFAMOYL) ACETAMIDE. THE SULFONAMIDE WAS OBTAINED IN HIGH YIELD AND PURITY AFTER AN EASY WORK-UP.ANTIBACTERIAL ASSAY OF ALL THE TEST COMPOUNDS SHOWED GOOD ACTIVITIES AGAINST BOTH OF GRAM POSITIVE BACTERIA AND GRAM NEGATIVE BACTERIA.
